Muse Riesling 2011

Drinking Guide

Drink 2013-2032

Riesling has been our signature white for fifty years. Crafted in a European manner from handpicked grapes, this vintage pays homage to its origins at Moorilla — ‘a rocky place by the water’. Flavours of new, white blossoms, crisp green apples and fresh lime are married with a silky yet weighty texture, developed through extended contact with skin and lees. With a slaty minerality and brilliant natural acidity, this wine will benefit from several decades of cellaring, providing an excellent accompaniment for fine food.

Vintage Description
Technical Details

As with the previous releases, this wine was made through the blending of our separately fermented blocks. This creates a distinctively complex and subtle wine that fits well in the Muse range. This wine shows mineral and flinty characters balanced by citrus and floral undertones. It has been modelled around a European style and while drinkable in its youth it will benefit from bottle maturation. The fruit was sourced from both Moorilla owned and operated vineyards: St Matthias vineyard (West Bank, Tamar River) and the Moorilla Estate vineyard (West Bank, Derwent River). Both of these sites are of average yield with different clones and vine age. The fruit was left on the vine until flavour profiles showed an increase in perfume and floral characters before it was hand-picked. Despite a difficult season which saw high botrytis pressure due to high humidity and higher than average rain throughout the season, fruit quality remained very good but necessitated hand sorting at the winery.
