Muse Riesling 2015

Drinking Guide

Drink 2017-2036

The 2015 vintage will be renowned for its excellent natural balance and quality. This bouquet is perfumed and rich with citrus blossom and a touch of honeysuckle. The wine’s layers are developed through extended skin contact, wild fermentation and maturation in old oak. Our River Derwent site typically brings a touch of botrytis, which we accentuate. Powerful flavours drive through the textured palate, framed by chalky tannins. The wine is balanced by youthful acidity and promises a long and outstanding future.

Technical Details

Continuing to work on the single vineyard concept that we’ve been doing since 2012 I have again tried to work with our fruit in a manner that highlights its more robust nature: the Moorilla vineyard being floral, spicy and perfumed (rather than fresh with citrus fruit) has been accentuated in the winery. It is however not your typical Australian style: wild fermentation in old oak along with extended lees maturation give a much more opulent wine. However, I think this compliments the vineyard and results in a wine that provides subtlety and complexity now but like many Muse wines my aim is for the future. Fruit quality was very good but as always there is some botrytis risk with our vineyard due to its proximity to the river. Timing of harvest is therefore quite critical as we need the fruit to ripen but must avoid as much botrytis progression as possible. Vintage 2015 was a particularly strong season for us with the best yields we’ve had in ages with almost no botrytis to be seen, all with balanced vines and great quality.
