Muse Botrytis Riesling 2009

Drinking Guide

Drink 2011-2030

First planted at Moorilla in 1958, Moorilla’s signature white wine has been modelled around a dry textural European style and while drinkable in its youth it will benefit from bottle maturation. 2009 is a vintage that will give stunning long-lived white wines. Intense, long, floral, citrus and spice flavours have a mineral counterpart. The pulsating natural acidity and deftly managed phenolics have created a balanced structure. The wine is tightly wound at release, fresh, austere and creamy. Softness, honey, nut and colour will develop and deepen with maturity. This wine is a true reflection of Moorilla terroir, the 2009 vintage and will mature beyond two decades if cellared well.

Vintage Description
Technical Details

As with the 2008 release, this wine was made through the blending of our separately fermented blocks in to create a distinctively complex and subtle wine that fits well within the Muse range. This wine shows mineral and flinty characters balanced by citrus and floral undertones. It has been modelled around a European style and while drinkable in its’ youth it will benefit from bottle maturation. The fruit was sourced from both Moorilla owned and operated vineyards: St Matthias vineyard (West Bank, Tamar River) and the Moorilla Estate vineyard (West Bank, Derwent River). Both of these sites are of average yield with different clones and vine age. The fruit was left on the vine until flavour profiles showed an increase in perfume and floral characters before it was hand-picked. Despite a difficult season which saw lower than normal yields in 2009 fruit quality was excellent and we were able to pick earlier than 2008 as flavour and aroma was achieved sooner.
