Muse Chardonnay 2007

Drinking Guide

Drink 2010-2019

Sixteen months in mixed French oak barriques has given this wine stately complexity. Aromas of apple and pear are balanced with oak spice and sweetness. This carries well to the palate where again oak influence is subtle and balanced with crisp acid and the fruit and mineral characters of the wine. Matches well with food now or later.

Vintage Description
Technical Details

This wine is a step closer to the Chardonnay style that I see for Moorilla in the future. Compared to the 2006 release, the wine is fresher and shows less over all of an oak impact on the wine. Rather, the oak is more integrated with fresher fruit and mineral characters. Texturally, the wine is also more impressive and should improve over time. Balance between fruit, mineral and oak is what we are aiming to achieve. The fruit was sourced from the Moorilla owned and operated St. Matthias vineyard, north-east facing on the West Bank of the Tamar River. Yields were exceptionally low due to the very dry growing conditions. It was a hot summer season followed by a consistent autumn ripening season with low rainfall and minimal disease pressure followed. The fruit was hand picked when flavour profiles were considered optimal. The wine was sourced from two separate vineyard blocks.
