Muse Chardonnay 2008

Drinking Guide

Drink 2011-2023

$61

QTY

A single vineyard chardonnay from an outstanding vintage. This is an austere wine with integrated oak that sits alongside rather than overpowering the Tasmanian terroir; it’s an expression of fruit character, crisp acidity and a mineral backbone. It will drink very well in its youth but will also soften and improve with maturation. Mineral, lime citrus, stone fruit and stone fruit blossom aromas are unadorned. There’s no charry oak here and the natural acidity isn’t softened via malo-lactic fermentation. The silky lees stirred texture compliments beautifully the natural acidity and impressive length.

Technical Details

This wine is a new style for Moorilla and is reminiscent of the single vineyard releases of previous vintages. I’m looking for a more austere wine with integrated oak that sits alongside rather then overpowering the Tasmanian terroir; expression of fruit character, crisp acidity and a mineral backbone. This wine will drink very well in its youth but will also soften and improve with maturation. As a season, 2008 was quite a warm summer followed by a warm and dry autumn. Yields were excellent and with the warm season ripening was expected to be quick. Picking was therefore organised around a desire to achieve a range of ripeness and flavour profiles in the finished wine, as seen below.
