Muse Pinot Noir 2013

Drinking Guide

Drink 2015-2025

QTY

Our renowned single vineyard Pinot noir, of the Moorilla vineyard, combines the elegance and power of a warm and dry vintage. Sunshine delivered rich hues and ripe tannins. With extended maturation in French oak, it has a stately power. For this wine, we hand pick individual rows as they ripen, make many different batches and eventually select the best to create layers of flavours and complexity. Led by a perfume of violets and roses, the core of ripe fruit is accompanied by exotic spice, French oak and fragrant tea. The palate is soft with compelling texture and weight. Intense flavours last. Plentiful tannins and firm acidity indicate long cellaring.

Vintage Description
Technical Details

A heavier and more robust style showing the principles of the Muse series in that it was blended to show a balance between fruit derived and oak derived aromas and flavours. The result is a wine displaying fresh berries and spice with hints of tobacco and leather. Powerful, balanced and complex, this wine will benefit from bottle maturation. This wine contrasts to the Praxis in that there is a higher percentage of whole bunch ferments and carbonic maceration, the impact on tannin and texture is important in bottle maturability and food matching all typical of our southern vineyard. The fruit was sourced from the Moorilla vineyard located on the west bank of the Derwent River. The fruit was left on the vine until flavour profiles showed an increase in fruit/berry characters before it was hand-picked. Yields were quite good and disease was minimal. Effort was made in picking within blocks to obtain separate fruit batches for fermentation. This season showed very variable conditions in that the season started quite cool but finished warm. Lower yields ripened relatively quickly with good flavours and aromas.
