Rich and complex it will benefit from decanting over the course of its long life. A rich and vibrant nose with fresh berry, leather, spice, hints of black pepper and capsicum combine seamlessly. Soft and velvety Merlot, earthy and powerful Cabernet Sauvignon and floral and round Cabernet franc combine to create a full-bodied wine that is approachable now but will improve in time. Smooth and fine-grained tannin provide for a long and balanced finish. Matches well with food now or later.

Technical Details

Despite many differing opinions, I believe Tasmania has the capacity to make some excellent Bordeaux styled blends. That is of course so long as site selection, proper viticultural practices and attention in the winery combine. This wine is a fine example of such a cool climate blend. Soft and velvety Merlot, earthy and powerful Cabernet Sauvignon and floral and round Cabernet franc combine to create a full-bodied wine that is approachable now but will improve in time. Rich and complex it will benefit from decanting over the course of its long life. All fruit was sourced from the Moorilla owned and operated St. Matthias vineyard, north-east facing on the West Bank of the Tamar River. Yields were good due to the very high yielding growing season. Due to a Eutypa infection in one of our Cabernet Sauvignon blocks, we were forced to remove it in 2007. Therefore, while we wait for the new plantings to establish our blend will be Merlot dominant. As a season, 2008 was quite a warm summer followed by a warm and dry autumn. As with all our wines, the fruit was hand picked. Picking was performed once herbaceous or green characters decreased and fruit flavours were dominant.
