Muse Syrah 2007

Drinking Guide

Drink 2010-2025

From a warm dry and early vintage comes a lighter style of Shiraz that we call Syrah. Ripe fruit aromas balance a wealth of peppery spice. Concentrated flavours, an elegant body, fine dusty tannins and vibrant natural acidity provide the framework of Tasmanian Syrah. Decant in the various stages of maturity to enjoy further complexity and integration when aromas of leather and truffles will continue to make this an excellent accompaniment to food.

Vintage Description
Technical Details

This is a lighter style Shiraz-based wine. As it is not of warm or hot-climate origin, it is lighter in body and fresher in both its spice and fruit characters. Expect some vegetal undertones, they are not to be confused with under-ripe characters though and have been kept for complexity. While high in alcohol, it has been balanced to both oak and acid. These combine with some delicate floral notes. As it is not typically Australian in its profile, we have opted to call it by its traditional French name, Syrah. The fruit was sourced from the Moorilla owned and operated St. Matthias vineyard, north-east facing on the West Bank of the Tamar River. The fruit was left on the vine until flavour profiles showed an increase in fruit/berry characters before it was hand-picked. Due to the very dry 2007 conditions, these vines were rescued with emergency irrigation. The dry conditions meant that one block yielded very nearly no fruit. The other was extremely Low .
