This Riesling ain’t for beginners. The wine is dry, deliberately complex and showcases Moorilla’s terroir. It’s a convergence of tradition, hedonism and the future. Ooh la la. Moorilla’s single vineyard Riesling was first foot-stomped and fermented wild in 1962. Today, the Moorilla Vineyard is dedicated to Riesling and Pinot noir (and Mona, too, of course). It’s rare and precious terrain. At release, only 1038 bottles will be made available by allocation. The 2015 vintage is renowned for its excellent natural balance and quality. The bouquet is perfumed and rich with citrus blossom, elderflower, apple and a touch of honeysuckle. The wine’s layers are developed through extended skin contact, wild fermentation and maturation in old oak. Our River Derwent site typically brings a touch of noble rot, which we accentuate.
Powerful flavours drive through the textured palate, framed by chalky tannins. The wine is balanced by youthful acidity and promises a long and outstanding future.
