Red 2018
The Cloth Label Red 2018 was drawn from a vintage with great intensity of fruit flavour, and it shows in the wine—Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon are the heroes of the blend, with a peppery, grilled red capsicum nose and plenty of rich dark fruit. On the palate the Cabernet brings some power, with fine, rich tannins and an incredibly complex palate that dries from strawberry to boysenberry and tart plum. Finishes long, with more dark fruit and a suggestion of aniseed.

An exemplary example of an excellent year.
Pinot noir, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet franc and Riesling.
Winemaker Notes
This wine was blended out of each of the red varieties that are grown at St Matthias vineyard, plus some Riesling. The idea is to have a wine that represents the entire vineyard: playing to the individual strength of each variety, while remaining in balance. The wine has a great deal of depth and complexity—both aromatically and texturally—but it’s decidedly medium-bodied. The aim for the wine is to be bigger than a Pinot, but not as big as a Cabernet. With many intriguing layers to explore (just like St Matthias), this wine will continue to mature for many years.
