The Moorilla Deep Dive

For those who’d like a deeper, more intimate look at all things Moorilla, we kick off with a tour (with a resident Moorilla expert) of the gravity-assisted winery itself, looking at the finer points of the craft and techniques that make our wines special.

Once that’s done, you’ll decamp to our underground tasting room for a comprehensive tasting of the Moorilla range (including wines from the Praxis, Muse and Cloth Label series), plus any other interesting goodies we’re currently pouring.

Over in the Coal River Valley, you will find our sibling winery—Domaine A.

Domaine A traces its roots to Stoney Vineyard, planted in 1973 and acquired by the Althaus family in the late 1980s. Since then Domaine A has become celebrated for its craftsmanship, commitment to excellence and a dedication to making wines that reflect Bordeaux style reds in our cold climate Tasmanian terroir.

Domaine A produces wines of pedigree and longevity—anchored by flagship releases such as the celebrated Domaine A Cabernet Sauvignon which earned Domaine A the honour of Tasmania's first Langtons Classified winery.

In 2018, Domaine A founders Peter and Ruth Althaus passed on the custodianship of the vineyard and winery to Moorilla winemaker Conor van der Reest and Mona owner David Walsh, who are dedicated to keeping the attitude that has made Domaine A great: an unwavering commitment to excellence and pre-cellaring our wines until they are deemed perfect for release: some things are worth waiting for.

Stoney Vineyard

Stoney Vineyard (the oldest in Tasmania’s famous Coal River Valley) boasts the perfect mix of terroir, philosophy and patience to produce some of the finest wines in Australia. North-facing, temperate and close enough to the coast to catch a sea breeze, Stoney Vineyard vines receive some of the longest daylight hours in Australia, allowing for longer vintages of incredible subtlety and intensity.
