Despite many differing opinions, I believe Tasmania has the capacity to make some excellent Bordeaux-styled blends. This relies on a combination of good site selection, viticultural practices and attention in the winery. This wine is a fine example of such a cool climate wine. Savoury and spicy notes are found over fruit. Rich and complex it will benefit from decanting over the course of its long life. All fruit was sourced from the Moorilla owned and operated St. Matthias vineyard, north-east facing on the West Bank of the Tamar River. As with all our wines, the fruit was handpicked. Picking was performed once herbaceous or green characters decreased and fruit flavours increased. Note below that the yields for the Cabernets were some of the least affected out of the very low yielding season, however it was only the latest flowering block that achieved normal yields.
