Muse Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2011

Drinking Guide

Drink 2014–2035

The 2011 vintage is made without Merlot allowing the focus to be upon pure Cabernet character. Bright purple colour and red and black currant aromas introduce a perfume of violets, paprika and spearmint notes. Dark chocolate and French oak provide the depth. The tannins show strength and firmness in their youth, typical of cabernet whilst long flavours or currants and cranberries adorn the bright acidity. Traditionally matched with slow cooked dishes, it will benefit from decanting over the course of its long life. Cellar 10-15 years.

Despite many differing opinions, I believe Tasmania has the capacity to make some excellent Bordeaux styled blends. This relies on a combination of good site selection, viticultural practices and attention in the winery. This wine is a fine example of such a cool climate wine. Rich and complex it will benefit from decanting over the course of its long life.
